The Last Run and The Next Step

Tonight I am in Windhoek (pronounced vind hook), Namibia. This is a story in itself, so I will finish my last run in Kruger and upload a few pictures.

The last run was another 5:30 AM excursion. It was not as cold or maybe I was more prepared for it. The group was joined by a family from Australia so the truck was a little crowded. The sun came up over the horizon and it gave the park a brilliant look. We were the first ones in the park. Unfortunately, the animals had decided to sleep in. At first we did not even see impalas. We could see some elephants in the distance and we were also able to see a family of rhinos in the brush. All of a sudden a group of African wild dogs waking down the street toward us. Adrian said it was a very rare sight. They walked right by us and then down into the brush. What a sight!

The rest of the time we saw wildebeest, elephants and warthogs in the road. We saw another Cape buffalo and a number of birds like the stork and a vulture. I also have pictures of starling. They are a beautiful, iridescent blue.  The end came too soon. We took a group photo with Adrian and waited for our ride to Joburg. It gave me an opportunity to see the grounds and they were spectacular.

I was hoping that it would be an early night. Unfortunately it was not!

This morning I made my way to Windhoek. I should have been picked up at the airport but it did not quite happen that way. The travel company, a Sense of Africa, was unapologetic and it cost me almost $40 in phone calls to get it straightened out. Anyway, I am here at the Kalahari Sands Resort and Casino. My room was fabulous with a panoramic view of the city, such as it is. I walked around a little and there was very little to see. At 6:00PM the streets were deserted. I ate at the hotel (yuccck!) and once I finish this I am going to bed early. Tomorrow I will be in Swakopmund-yes, spelled it right-on the Atlantic coast. I will stay in touch when and where ever I have internet.

Until then, so long!
