The flight was uneventful aside from the family from hell in the same aisle. I ended up with the window seat but was unable to sleep due to noise, etc. Stopping at Reykjavik was neat. The airport was ultra modern and the food was not bad. Leaving there, I finally landed in Paris at 6:10 AM. This went very smoothly. I was able to negotiate the Metro easily and found the apartment without a hassle.
The apartment is in a nice neighborhood and it is pretty nice. It has a kitchen, living room with a sofa bed, bedroom and 2 bathrooms. Works for me.
Well, anyway, I dropped my bags and went back to the airport to help Bobby back. Good thing! His luggage weighed a ton. Made it back and set out for Paris. Stopped at Notre Dame Cathedral, LaChapelle, and sat an outdoor cafe.
Bobby was in bed by 4;30. I, however, went to Les Halles and had dinner and just people watched and there was much to see. Being the day before Bastille Day, the cops were everywhere and people were in a party mode. I, sadly, was too tired to party and was home by 9:00 PM and asleep.
Today was a beautiful day. The temperatures were cool enough for a jacket and it was sunny. We went right to see the big parade. It is really just a show of strength by French goverment. Every type of military outfit was represented along with tanks, jeeps, and other motorized artillary. It is a fun experience. The sidewalks were mobbed and you could hardly move. It was good to see the French are prepared for WWII.
After this we had lunch at a rather expensive cafe on Boulevard de Cappucine. We sat outside in the first row and we were able to watch all the soldiers heading home after the parade, the crowd breaking up and just the usual movement of people. It was great. (and the food wasn't bad either).
After this cafe experience, I would have been content to stay here all day, however, it was time to move on. We hopped one of those "hop on, hop off" tours. it was pretty good. I am pretty well toasted and probably should have worn a hat. Oh well!
We are off to the fireworks at the Eiffel Tower tonight. (this is if I can wake Bobby up!)
